Donations

There are many ways to support the Mahomet Public Library District. We've listed some ideas below, but you may have others. For more information on any donations to the library, please contact Lynn Schmit, Library Director.

The Endowment Fund

As we tackle budget concerns with immediate, short-term approaches, we know that it is also important to consider the long-term financial health of the library. For this reason, an endowment has been established to help provide income toward building operations for years to come.

Donations to the Mahomet Library's Endowment Fund are deposited into an account administered by the Community Foundation of East Central Illinois. The Endowment Fund is permanent; the principal will not be spent. It is invested and the earnings will be used to support library programs and services.

Legacy Gifts (Bequests)

Charitable bequests are a special way to support the Mahomet Library by making contributions to the Library through your will or trust. By leaving a bequest, you will have a lasting impact on generations of Library patrons to come.

Commemorative Gifts

A book in the library is a wonderful way to honor someone else. The library will purchase the book and add a bookplate with your specified inscription.

You may donate online using a credit or debit card or download this form and it to the library (attention: Lynn Schmit, Director), along with your check.

Unrestricted Donations

Donations of any amount are welcome and will be used to purchase new materials for the library, including adult, children, young adult, or large print books; CDs; DVDs; and newspaper, magazine, or database subscriptions. Please specify if you would like your donation to be used for a particular collection.

You may donate online using a credit or debit card or send your check it to the library (attention: Lynn Schmit, Director).

Donating Used Books

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we cannot accept more book donations this summer, due to lack of space. We will welcome your book donations again beginning September 1, 2014 as the Friends of the Library begin preparations for our fall book sale.

Thank you for considering donating your used books to the Mahomet Library. We sort the donations, add the treasures to our collection, and give the remaining books in good condition to the Friends of the Mahomet Library for their book sales. Upon request, books we cannot use may be returned to the donor. If you are considering making book donations, please keep in mind the following guidelines so that the library does not waste staff time and incur disposal costs.

We CAN accept:

  • New or like new hardback fiction and nonfiction (prefer titles less than 3 years old unless they are classics)
  • Gently used paperbacks that have not yellowed
  • Children's books that have not been torn or written in.

We CANNOT accept:

  • Books that are dirty, water-stained or moldy
  • Garage sale leftovers
  • Enclyopedias, textbooks, Readers Digest condensed books or computer books (unless the computer books are less than one year old)
  • VHS tapes
